Angel Biscuits

Here are some great biscuits I finally made from a recipe that they had in a Bread Baking class at J.C. Campbell.

I am not claiming that they are good for you....as they have 1/2 cup of shortening (a.k.a. hydrogenated oil). But you could try substituting butter?? Not sure if it would work?  But then which is worse?

Nevertheless if you have to make biscuits.. these are the ones:

Angel Biscuits
2 1/2 cups all -purpose flour
2 tbsp. white sugar
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 cup shortening
1/4 cup warm (100 F) water
1 package of yeast
3/4 cup warm buttermilk (105 - 110 F)

Combine flour, sugar, baking powder & salt. Cut in shortening until coarse crumbs. Set aside.

Put yeast in water and stir. Add yeast and buttermilk to dry ingredients. Blend well.

Put dough on floured surface. Kneed 10 - 15 times. Form ball. roll to 3/4" thickness. cut biscuits. cover and let rise until doubled.

Bake at 400 F for 15 minutes or until done.
