Kurinuki technique (word of the day)





Kurinuki is a Japanese term relating to a particular hand-forming process. This technique employs carving out a shaped solid block of clay to obtain interior space. Ceramic artists utilizing this subtractive method include Ken Masanao (Japan), Hiroyuki Wakimoto (Japan), Yoshitaka Hasu (Japan), Masanao Kaneta (Japan)and Lucien Koonce (USA) .

    I like this method a lot! It's a welcome change from the usual. And thanks for making the DVD on the kurinuki method.
    I made a box with a triangular key for the lid. Separating the lid from the bottom tends to mess up the key. I'll try cutting the lid at an angle.
    If you have any suggestions let me know what you propose.
