The Department of Art and Design at East Tennessee State University seeks applicants for a full-time, tenure-track position in the Ceramics area to teach all levels of undergraduate and graduate courses in Ceramics, including other related courses. 

Responsibilities will involve teaching a full load of three undergraduate courses each semester, along with graduate level and independent study courses. Other responsibilities include supervision and management of ceramics facilities, instructional related activities within the area, supervision of graduate assistants and service to the department. 
 

Ability to teach wheel-throwing, hand building, ceramic sculpture, advanced and graduate ceramics and the possibility of special topics courses. Candidate's experience must include technical expertise in all aspects of the ceramics studio operation including gas-fired kilns, electric kilns, glaze chemistry and the facilitation of studio and equipment maintenance.  

MFA in Studio Art by Dec 15, 2015 with an emphasis in Ceramics and at least two years of university level teaching experience. Evidence of an active exhibition record at a regional/national level. Ability to teach wheel, hand building, and sculptural ceramics processes at all levels of both undergraduate and graduate ceramics. Ability to run complex ceramics facility and equipment.  

Candidate should have a broad knowledge of and an appreciation for both traditional and contemporary ceramics including technical and aesthetic approaches to working in clay. Applicant should have a demonstrated ability to teach cross-disciplinary approaches in studio art. Expertise in wheel; hand building; sculptural ceramics; clay and glaze science; atmospheric firing processes including wood, soda and salt. Excellent exhibition record and continued evidence of artistic accomplishment.
