Michael Sherril Workshop in Jackson Michigan 2014
March 7, 8, 9, 2014 Register now!!!
THREE DAYS OF CLAY
Presentor: Michael Sherill
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION from Michael Sherill:
"How an overgrown play dough factory (the extruder) can change the way you think about clay! This workshop will focus on extruding and manipulation of clay forms. I will start by extrudering tubes that are then pull tapered, into long spouts for sculptural vessels. My involvement in using an extruder has totally changed my thinking about it as a tool. It has widened my view of what I can do with clay. Instead of the extruder being a static tool, just to make an object, I now see it as a work station. Like a potter’s wheel, a place to make and manipulate forms. This is the concept that I would like to communicate and share with others. This technique can open up new possibilities for anyone working in clay. I will also discuss my techniques using layers of colored clay in the extruder as well as blending other materials with clay. "
