Learn  glazing techniques including, pouring, brushing, spraying, dipping, stencils, overlapping, latex, was resist, multi-firing, decals, china paints, sandblasting, etc.

  • Reed Handle Workshop

August 14, 2010
One day, hands on class on how to make reed handles.
Saturday 10:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
$75.00 (includes reed and a delicious lunch).
Linda McFarling and John Britt will conduct a one day, hands on class on how to reed handles. Bring a glaze fired, teapot, basket or other object with lugs for a reed handle.

  • Critique/ Self Critique Workshop

August 15, 2010
One day, class on how to critique and the basics of self-critique
Sunday 10:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
$75.00 (includes reed and a delicious lunch).
Linda McFarling and John Britt will conduct a one day,  class on how critique your own work. This is a critical part of developing an idea to fruition and refining your work. As they say in painting, “the most important thing is knowing when to stop working” . We will have a group critique and discuss methods for you to critique yourself. Bring some ceramics pieces you are working on or past pieces you want to use as a jumping board.

  • Basic Ceramic Raw Materials and Glaze Chemistry

August 22 – 28, 2010

Arrowmont School of Arts & Crafts

This course in basic ceramic chemistry is designed for potters who want to become better acquainted with the materials used in ceramics, their origins and uses in high-fire, mid-range and low fire glazes. We will briefly cover oxides and their sources, the Seger Unity Molecular formula, and will mix and test glaze recipes on test tiles. Some experience with ceramics is preferred.
