An Old Reliable Pug??

If anyone comes across and old reliable pug or pug/mixer, please let me know. There are a couple of potters, including me, who have Rheumatoid Arthritis, and can't reclaim our clay. Serious wedging is out of the question.

  1. Contact Patrick Houston. He is selling an old Walker pug mill for $900. I've used one before and its a great machine. I'm not certain if it de-airs, though. Patrick's email is rockyflatspotter[at]aol[dot]com

  2. I don't think Nelle would want an old Walker if she has arthritis?!

That is a bear even if you are young.

I think what she needs is a small deairing pugmill that is easy to use and won't cut your arm off.

    No??!

  3. Just trying to respond to her inquiry with what I know. She did say "old".

What Nell may need is softer clay.

  4. Michael,

Don't mean to give you shit for the offer but I know Nelle and I am pretty sure she needs a nice easy to use deairing pugmill. But I could be wrong.

I have just had lots of experience with the monster that is the Walker Pug Mill!

I was chained to it for 4 years and developed back trouble and shoulder trouble, etc. It is a bitch.

    We will let Nelle decide.

  5. You're probably right. I used one years ago in undergraduate school.

    Arthritis is no joke.
    Good Luck Nelle.

  6. Michael,

There may be something to the softer clay idea though!

  7. Mike and John,

I really appreciate the discussion. I am using pheonix now and find it easy to throw. It's the standing that does me in. Wedging, using the slab roller, things that requie that I stand. Now I can wedge sitting down, but it takes forever. Anyway, my hands are good. Now, one of the other potters, a much younger guy is having trouble with his arms from his elbows to his hands. So it's a mixed bag. But perhaps I should have used the word "cheap" instead of old. Thanks so much for the response.
