Claymakers is proud to present the work of internationally known potter Cynthia Bringle.  Cynthia's pots are very functional, well designed, with her own unique style of surface carving and brushwork. Cynthia is an incredibly influential member of the ceramics community, educating and mentoring ceramic artists the world over.  Joining her in this show is Floyd, Virginia potter Sarah McCarthy. Sarah's stoneware pottery has a pleasing, earthy palette and serves to accentuate the beauty of food and daily rituals.  Her playful carvings and birds, perched here and there, create a sense of warmth and whimsy, light and beauty.

Challenge yourself and be inspired!  Cynthia Bringle brings a lifetime of learning and experience to share in this workshop. Her focus will be on improving skills while paying attention to form. You can expect a review of throwing techniques, as well as a chance to try composite pieces and carving/finishing methods, following Cynthia's demonstrations. Bring one or two pieces of current work for a critique.

You may work as late Saturday evening as you like. Bring your own clay, or purchase clay on site. If work will be fired at Claymakers, a nominal firing fee will be added to the cost of clay.

About Cynthia Bringle
Cynthia Bringle is one of America's pr-eminent potters and a legendary teacher. She has taught many workshops through the years and many of her students have gone on to become leading potters in their own right.

Cynthia began her journey in clay at the Memphis Academy of Art, and then studied at Haystack School in Maine, before receiving an MFA from Alfred University, and beginning teaching at Penland School of Crafts. She is a Fellow of the American Craft Council, a Life Member of the Southern Highland Craft Guild, recipient of the North Carolina Award for Fine Art, holds an Honorary Doctor of Fine Arts from the Memphis College of Art, and is a North Carolina Living Treasure.
