Leaching Help

I would like the opinion of my pottery peers as to the food safety of the following glaze:

SATIN BLACK

Redart 61.38
Neph. Sye. 35.00
Whiting 2.76
Dolomite 0.611
Soda ash 0.247

Cobalt carb 5.0

I have a hard time looking at the materials and deciphering if it's "stable." I did the vinegar test for 48 hours and saw no change in surface. mostly, i would like the consensus on using this on rims of plates.

Thanks for any feedback,

Nora

  4. Since the glaze is not on the food surface I don't see much of a problem. An alternative would be to make a slip out of Redart and cobalt with perhaps a melter and other clay additions and use that on the rims under your glaze.
