Long Beach Island Workshp 2010

Here is the infamous group from the LBI Foundation in New Jersey.  Not all were there (20 registered)  but this the the final group unloading on Saturday.   We had a great week and some great results with tests to change the studio from cone 10 reduction to cone 6/7 reduction. It could not have gone better (ignoring a  few with behavioral problems) .

I will post images and recipes later.

Elizabeth Cook (Music)

Finally a country singer with Balls!    I am so tired of these whiny country singers that when I heard Elizabeth Cook's new album, Welder I knew that there was hope in the world. Finally!

Anyone would can write "There's a Snake in the Bed", "All the Time", or "Blackland Farmer" has my vote!

Leaf Pot

This leaf magically dropped into a bowl I was glazing and unbeknownst to me it got fired into this oil spot bowl.  I have been trying to figure out how it happened and how to reproduce it for 20 years now!

Housing

Hello, I am going to be starting at the EnergyXchange in September and my husband and I need to start looking for a place to live. If you know of anything available, please let me know. Thanks.

Clay Slides at Penland

Does anyone know the night for Clay Slides each time there is a new summer workshop at Penland? I think it might be this Tuesday night, am I right? If anyone else hasn't gone to these slide nights at Penland, they are free to the public usually at 8 pm in the Northlight building.

Kristin Keiffer's workshop is this week, so I'm hoping to hear her slide talk.

Working Potter's ITC recipe

Here is a recipe for a coating, similar to ITC, but you can make yourself.  It is from Tony Clennell who posted it on Clayart and I thought that some of our readers might like it;

Working Potters ITC formula.

I put this over the castable in my throat arch-
a place that takes a real beating. Al Tennant has also used it on his
train kiln and the one he built for Amy Kiline at Pottery West. He
swears by it. (If you know Al he swears most of the time.)
Coating
2 parts Alumina Hydrate
2 parts 35 mesh Kyanite
2 parts Zirconium (Zircopax, Opax)this is expensive!
1 part Vee gum T
I use weight and not volume

Bon feu!

Clay Club Meeting

We had an intimate meeting at Kari's home studio last night. Lynda Banner discussed her recent AWE meeting and Handmade In America. Tria, Lynda, and I did our best to welcome newcomers Patti Connor-Greene from Pinola and Peter McKinney from Asheville. Hopefully we'll see more of them and their work in the future.

And  then click on images and you will see some nice stuff.  Amazing how we live in only our "language" even with the internet.

June Clay Club

June seems to be a tough month to plan a meeting since the TRAC Tour and the River District Tour are the same week. I understand those of you who want to skip it. I'll host the meeting at my studio for anyone who wants to hang out, eat, drink and talk clay. And who wouldn't want to do that?

So Wednesday June 9th, 2010 from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.  Food is whatever you want.

If you need directions contact Kari in COMMENTS below. Or Google 2250 South 80 Celo NC

Glaze Workshops on the West Coast 2010

Yo,

Just wanted to let anyone who is interested know that I have one spot left
in the Glaze Class at Sierra Nevada College.  We have 15 so far. It is great
when you get a full class as everyone gets the benefit of each others work
and knowledge.

So if you want and can get in, contact:

Sheri Leigh O'Connor | sleigh@sierranevada.edu  | 775.881.7588
Chair of Fine Arts | Summer Workshops Director | Ceramics Professor
Sierra Nevada College, 999 Tahoe Blvd., Incline Village, NV 89451

Should be a good one.

As far as the west coast goes...I will also be having a TWO-WEEK Glaze

working on glazes! I think it is the first one ever!
